about us

Ten years ago we met a little girl who changed our life, and became the impetus for the Heartwell Foundation

She was 7 years old and possessed the biggest brightest smile that any parent could wish for. Despite her healthy, active, happy life she was suddenly laid low with headaches. She came to us shortly after her diagnosis of a brain tumour.

Despite extensive disability and weakness after her brain surgery she thrived on her activity program. It allowed her to feel “normal” again for just a little while and to do the things that other kids do. She taught us that we should focus on what we can do and not on what we can’t.

She accepted challenges, overcame obstacles and made gains, small step by small step.
She greeted us each session with her beautiful toothy, courageous smile. Her last session was no different and was just 4 days before she passed away. We see her love of activity, her courage and determination reflected in many of the hundreds of children with whom we work.

There are too many children who are happy and healthy one day, but through accident or misfortune have their lives suddenly and irrevocably turned upside down the next.

The Heartwell Foundation provides unique rehabilitation and educational services offering access and opportunity and aims to create for these children a more level playing field. The point of difference about Heartwell is that it is non disability specific and caters for children with wide ranging and diverse needs. It’s programs are empowering and proactive, ultimately leading to better quality of life and helping kids to climb mountains they never dreamed possible.
